Different Fish Meal and Fish Oil Dietary Levels in European Sea Bass: Welfare Implications After Acute Confinement Stress

چکیده

To provide practical feeding management guidelines preceding a stressful episode during farming practices, European sea bass juveniles (initial weight: 72.3 g) were fed for 60-days different fish meal (FM) and oil (FO) dietary levels [high (30% FM, 15% FO, FM30/FO15), intermediate (20% 7% FM20/FO7), low (10% 3% FM10/FO3)] in triplicate conditions. Fish then fasted 36 h exposed to 2-h acute crowding (80 kg m –3 biomass). Plasma biochemistry, skin mucus parameters gene expression of stress immune-related genes performed before, at 2 24 after crowding. At the end trial, FM10/FO3 group showed lower final body weight, weight gain, specific growth rate compared other treatments. Most plasma mainly affected by condition rather than diet; however, stress, lactate was higher FM30/FO15 Similarly, protease, antiprotease, peroxidase lysozyme mostly conditions, while displayed mucosal IgM bactericidal activity against Vibrio anguillarum V. harveyi . stress-related considered ( hsp70 gr-1 brain; , gr-2 head kidney), an overall pattern that increased over time addition, kidney also up-regulated stress. Higher plasmatic together with up-regulation some transcripts suggest reactivity stress-response mechanism high FM FO levels. Otherwise, observed seems indicate able activate pro-inflammatory response this treatment. Overall, results present study seem 10% might affect immune responses.

Effects of different dietary levels of fish protein hydrolysates on growth, digestive enzymes, gut microbiota, and resistance to Vibrio anguillarum in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) larvae.

Two fish protein hydrolysates (FPH) were incorporated into four diets prepared for start-feeding sea bass larvae, at two different levels (10% and 19% of total ingredients): a commercial FPH, CPSP, in which the molecular mass of the main fraction of soluble peptides (51%) was between 500-2500 Da, and an experimental FPH obtained by acidic silage of sardine offal, SH, with a main portion of solu...

Psychological Stress and Welfare in Fish

Galhardo L, Oliveira RF. Psychological Stress and Welfare in Fish. Annu Rev Biomed Sci 2009;11:1-20. The ability to respond to stress is vital to the survival of any living organism, though sustained reactions can become detrimental to the health and welfare of animals. Stress responses of vertebrates are known through several studies in their physiological, behavioural and psychological compon...

Dietary fish oil and airways obstruction.

Background. Fish contain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, principally eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, which are known to interfere with the body's inflammatory response and may be of benefit in chronic inflammatory conditions. Methods. We studied the relation between the dietary intake of n-3 fatty acids and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in 8960 current or former ...

1338 Dietary Fish Oil and Arthritis

The prolonged bleeding times (1) and protection against thrombosis found in Eskimos (2) is thought to be related to a marine diet rich in c0-3-fatty acids (3). Recently, fish oil diets have been shown to modify the course of rheumatoid arthritis (4). In animal models of disease, diet enrichment with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), ~ an c0-3-fatty acid present in fish oil, protected the NZB/NZW mou...

Dietary vitamin mix levels influence the ossification process in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) larvae.

The influence of dietary vitamins on growth, survival, and morphogenesis was evaluated until day 38 of posthatching life in European sea bass larvae (Dicentrarchus labrax). A standard vitamin mix (VM), at double the concentration of the U.S. National Research Council's recommendations, was incorporated into larval feeds at 0.5%, 1.5%, 2.5%, 4.0%, and 8.0% to give treatments VM 0.5, VM 1.5, VM 2...
